I grew up in Japan (and several other countries) and find myself frequently drawn back for inspiration. From the geeky visuals of 'Electric Town' (Akihabara) and the eclectic fashions in Shibuya, to the back streets of Yokohama and the zen parks of Nara, Japan uniquely blends post-modern chic, chaotic crowds and popular appreciation of nature and the peace found in simplicity. It's a fitting muse.

Updated branding for Dresses on a Clothesline - a simple graphic style which is easy to translate to other forms such as business cards. Using a simple diagonal line in lieu of an illustrated logo evokes the online immediacy of the site - this particular element also lends itself well to use in video. An existing responsive layout was used to make the blog accessible on mobile, desktop and other formats.

Illustrations inspired by the ceramic works created by Studio Arhoj. I wanted to create a lifelike vector likeness of a few different pieces from Studio Arhoj, recreating different textures, patterns and shapes. The result is a poster showing three pieces: a cup, a pen holder and a ghost. Included is a side by side comparison of the cup illustration with the image that inspired it (copyright Studio Arhoj).

A poster design inspired by a visit to the Danish Design Museum in Copenhagen. I was influenced by the chairs in the museum lobby, bright red and in a mid century style, I was inspired to create a mid century style poster to match. After creating an illustration of the chair, I added the artichoke lamp, a background in a muted mid century pastel and a simple sans serif typeface.

I have shown the different iterations the poster took before I chose the final, a close-up of the chair illustration and the photo that inspired the project.

A few examples of the custom cover illustrations I created for Imperial College's science magazine, i,Science.

I initially began work on the team creating custom illustrations and later joined the editorial team and production manager. I was involved with all stages of the production process - from choosing a team of content producers, choosing the theme, commissioning written pieces, briefing the picture editor, copy and photo editing and creating the layout ,and optimising the magazine for web.
